Author’s note: For me, the answer to the following question is a no-brainer. What age would I choose my mind, body, and spirit to stop growing? “Twelve!” Regardless of gender, I believe the vastness of our unadulterated imaginations peak at 12-years-old.

“The Outhouse” is one of a collection of fantastic short stories involving one precocious protagonist, twelve-year-old Madison Porter. Madison’s experiences blur the line between reality and dreams. When looking for a place to hide on the Porter family’s Vermont dairy farm, a portal to the world emerges upon the opening of a forgotten outhouse door.
